The same proportions as the 2010 with 70% Grenache and 30% Shiraz. It smells and tastes Grenache dominant but the impact of the Shiraz is significant. Quite simply the best Wirra Wirra Original Blend I’ve had the pleasure to taste and something of a bargain to boot.
Headily perfumed. On opening it’s chock full of sweet raspberry juice with violet and rose florals, the texture at first creamy. Give it a little time and the acidity pulls it into more of a lithe shape with sandy tannin contributing to a textured finish. Impressive savoury, earthen characters work as the perfect foil to the deep red berry and cherry fruit, all ably backed up by plusher notes of blueberry and plum. Pepper and sweet spice play major roles with little static from oak present in other ways. A touch of meaty complexity seals the deal. Wouldn’t mind popping this in the cellar for five years. It may be better again. 93
