2011 Medhurst Reserve Yarra Valley Chardonnay

medhurst reserve 001I’ve been in the Yarra Valley for a week while Medhurst winemaker Matt Steel steered his ship towards my hometown of Brisbane. How do you like them apples? I look forward to catching up with another time. I reckon we should meet in somewhere in the middle.

Orange blossom. Biscuity oak. Almost Scotch Finger like. Spicy too but totally in tune with the strong grapefruit notes and white peach and melon embellishment. Excellent balance and a terrific mealy mouthfeel without presenting as a forced take on texture. Just making good Chardonnay from excellent fruit. Around medium-bodied with intensity, poise and length. Delicious now but I’d take a punt on this in the cellar as well. 94
