Situated to the south-west of the Merricks Block site. Apparently it’s a cooler, more vigorous vineyard planted on red volcanic soils. This one has a bit of gravitas to it. It’s broody and earthen – damp earth at that.
Density, depth and savouriness. Black plum and black cherry but it’s not a fruit driven wine. Undergrowth, sap, gentle black spice and tea leaf are just as prominent. A bit more palate weight here and significantly more clumpy tannin. Almost dour but in the best possible sense. 94
