2012 Innocent Bystander Yarra Valley Pinot Noir

innocent bystander pinot noirI haven’t tasted an Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir since the 2010 release. It was a good wine but I think this is far more fetching and dare I say, serious. I don’t remember the whole bunch work (25%) being as pronounced – not that it’s an overtly stalky wine. Just enough to play foil to the fleshy fruit.

Attractive musky florals, dark cherry and loganberry generosity held in check by a savoury, sappy outline. Black spice and a hint of cola. Embedded acidity leads to textured, smudgy tannin. Just the right balance between cerebral intrigue and sheer enjoyment. Easy to recommend. 92

I’m looking forward to 2012 Giant Steps whites and reds. I guess you’ll be reviewing them Jeremy?

    • I am generally sent the Pinots and the Chardonnays Michael so I hope so – I love tasting the single vineyards together each year. I’ve got a soft spot for the Harry’s Monster Bordeaux blend as well so I might make an enquiry about that wine too. Will wait and see what pops up when they’re ready for release.
