2013 Dowie Doole Vermentino

dd 001Huzzah! Textural Vermentino. Not just some generic dry, crisp white wine to serve with sardines. Something far more interesting and enjoyable. Vermentino the way it’s meant to be. Grapes are from a one acre planting in the Wetlands vineyard, McLaren Vale. Wild fermented in old French oak with some solids remaining, stirred for two weeks then left on yeast lees for another four months. Adroit winemaking generates complexity without smothering the beautiful white florals the variety is capable of producing.

Smells and tastes of stonefruit, melon and preserved lemons with a bit of sea spray. A giving mouthfeel, gentle nutty aspects and ample structure in the form of a fine backbone of acidity. Some savoury solids-derived notes. Good reach, delightful drinking. 92
