“Our mother should have just named you Laika!
It’s for your own good
It’s for the neighborhood
Our older brother bit by a vampire
For a year we caught his tears in a cup
And now we’re going to make him drink it
Come on Alex, don’t die or dry up” – Arcade Fire, Neighbourhood #2
Quartier translates from the French as ‘neighbourhood’ with Arneis meaning ‘the rascal’ in local Piedmontese dialect. The neighbourhood rascal it is then and a very characterful one at that.
An attractive and pretty nose of stewed pear, lychees, almonds and jasmine. There’s a bit of fennel bulb action on the palate. Love the mouthfeel here. Creamy and slick but not oily. A saline, lemony finish pulls things together neatly on the back-end with a nuanced and friendly phenolic nudge aiding and abetting. Very good Arneis. Tempted to go a point higher but I’ll be conservative. 92
