A recent Sommeliers Australia Great Southern themed tasting confirmed that Riesling is still the area’s hero variety. Pity so few people drink it…or did the 2012 Clare Valley releases change all that?
Classic regional traits of lime and slate. Pristine clarity, steely acidity and great persistence. Bone dry and full of resolve. What I particularly like here though are the effusive florals that exude from the glass. Sure it will be better in ten years but it’s not quite as taciturn as many examples I’ve tasted. 94 Excellent
