Rosso Di Colbo references the Italian practice of reclassifying certain non-Riserva level wines as Rosso di Montalcino. Colbo is shorthand for Colbinabbin, where the Greenstone vineyard is situated. This is a cracker of an option for current drinking while you wait for the heavily structured 2010 Sangiovese to hit its drinking window. It also contains 10% Colorino, which produces an incredibly deeply coloured juice, fills out the mid-palate and wraps around the sangiovese like your favourite cuddly blanket.
Juicy red cherries on entry, fleshy plums through the middle and savoury dried herbs, almond skins and pouch tobacco wrapping things up. Hints of orange peel in there somewhere as well. Fulfilling, chewy tannin seals the deal. Very tasty indeed. 91
