2011 Head Wines The Blonde Shiraz Viognier

head red the bondeFrom a single vineyard in the Stonewell subregion of the Barossa with between two and five percent Viognier skins incorporated depending on the vintage. Not marred by the cool, wet conditions in any way that I can see and my favourite of the 2011 Head Wine reds.

Plush and exotic within a framework that is only a notch above medium-bodied. Slippery and spicy with tongue-coating plum, blueberry and mulberry flavour. Violet florals, star anise, pepper and a hint of meatiness. Supple, ripe smudgy tannin. Happy days. 93

Jeremy, have you had the chance to try the recently released single vineyard wines? I have high hopes from the 2012 vintage…

  2. No, unfortunately not just yet Simon. Subsequent bottles of the 2012 Head Red Shiraz have me thinking I under-rated it in the review on this site. And it was impressive anyway. I’m looking forward to trying the single vineyard wines too.

I’m enjoying a 2011 Head Red now actually. Not as polished as the 12…but pretty reflective of your notes on the Blonde above. Good drinking for the $. Look forward to hearing about the 12′s, then buy, buy, buy…
