2010 Schwarz Trial by Jury The Guilty Graciano

schwarz TBJ-Graciano-smSimply listed as The ‘Guilty Graciano’ on the website but I’ll add the Trail by Jury part as it’s writtten clearly at the top of the front label. This was the most interesting of the Schwarz Wine Company new releases sent to me…by a fair margin. The Spanish variety Graciano is known for its high acidity (readily apparent here but safely within the margins of the flavours and overall profile) and its drought resistance. It is susceptible to rot and downy mildew but those factors aren’t often a big issue in the Barossa Valley.

Crushed red fruits, pronounced purple and blue florals, a little spice and a Chinotto edge. Excellent vitality. Acid bears most of the structural load. A hint of grilled meats on the palate. Bouncy and delicious if not overly complex. Has a future in the region not only as a straight varietal wine but also as a blending component I’d suggest. 91 Good
