I like the new proprietary bottle. Extremely important that my readers know that. Fruit is sourced from the Ebenezer subregion in the north of the Barossa Valley. It’s fast becoming a cliché with these 2012 reds from Teusner but this is the best Riebke I’ve tasted going back to the 2004. It has greater structure and complexity. In fact it’s probably a year off its drinking window although there’s no harm getting stuck in now.
Blackberries, violets, aniseed and earth to smell. It’s supple and smooth on entry and through the mid-palate before savoury oak kicks in and ripe, chocolatey tannins pull tight. The acidity provides energy and refreshment while the fruit displays vitality. Sanguine characters and Asian spice have me asking if there is perhaps a dash of Mataro in here? It wouldn’t surprise me. Blue fruited hightones as well. I reckon you could take a punt and cellar this over the medium term at least should you wish. Terrific value. 92 Very Good
