It’s probably fair to say that I have more time for a lot of Yarra Valley 2011 reds than most other writers. Having made that point I think these wines are more for drinking than thinking and scoring. And I wouldn’t particularly want the 2011 vintage conditions to repeat themselves regularly.
This was made at Yering Station and Hoddles Creek using 15% whole bunches and matured in French oak for 11 months, 25% of it new. Grapes were sourced from Dixons Creek. It’s light, bright and fragrant. Very pale in the glass, very pretty on the nose. Floral with sweeter raspberries and more sour red cherry notes. Some decaying forest leaf matter. Plenty of spice, mostly pepper. Built around acid but has some sappy tannin. A nice sheen of oak. Typical of the vintage really. 89 Good
