I’m in the Yarra Valley for the second annual Chandon Sparkling Summit at the moment. It’s a well run event and I’ll write more about it soon. With over 90% of their production consisting of sparkling wines it’s easy to forget that make some pretty handy still ones as well. I don’t think this has been released yet but at the price it will be more than useful addition to Chardonnay lovers’ sub $30 repertoire.
Shows some of the generosity (within the framework of the region) which I’m seeing in the 2012 Yarra whites I’ve tasted so far. As much white peach as nectarine with some body through the midpalate and an important line of fine, featured mineral acidity providing lovely structure and extending through to grapefruit and lime at the end. Wild fermentation, lees and oak provide plenty of interest in the realms of mouthfeel – the latter adding balanced nougat characters. Has a nutty, savoury edge as well. The amount of flavour and the delivery will please a wide audience. Flow and shape are bang on. Most enjoyable. 92 Very Good
