These 2011 Yalumba Y Series reds are by no means bad wines. But they aren’t of the same standard as previous vintages. Wet, cool season across most of South Eastern Australia. [broken record playing]
Smells good. Damson plums, black cherries and berries, autumnal notes and a lick of vanilla oak. It’s not skeletal and the tannin isn’t too hard or under-ripe. Some slightly bitter herbs as an aftertaste. The tomato accented acidity is the real issue. That and a lack of reach through the back-palate. Still, decent quaffing or serve it with a tomato based sauce and use the acidity as best you can. 86 Average
