2011 Yalumba FDW[7c] Chardonnay

yalumba fdw7c chardSo good to see this wine again after it skipped a year in 2010. It’s a go to Chardonnay and this release is cracker jack gear. For the uninitiated, FDW[7c] = Fine Dry White with the [7c] referring to the batch used. It’s fermented with indigenous yeast in one and two-year old French oak barriques. Receives battonage for nine months.

An elegant and refined expression but in no way lacking flavour or texture. Nectarine, white peach and lemons framed by toasty nougat oak. The palate is nutty and precise. Almonds and hazelnuts. Flinty acidity keeps it on track and extends through the finish. FDW, how I’ve missed you. 93+ Very Good – Excellent

I first had this at a hotel restaurant late last year (the markup was really scary) and I was impressed. A go to wine in our household too.

  2. I’ll have to check up on the RRP listed – I’ve used the 2008 release price for now. Have no idea why it “disappeared” from circulation for a while. It’s always been a good Chardonnay at a more than fair price (barring restaurant mark-ups). Anyway, a very impressive return and a wine I’ll be buying a few bottles of myself.

Thanks for the note… must try this. Don’t suppose they sent you the 2010 FDR1A?

    Cheers

  4. Well worth checking out. I asked about the 2010 FDR1a and it’s not officially available yet…at least for review. I’m very eager to taste it myself.

  5. GP says:

Dan’s have it listed as current vintage on their web site.

  6. Yes, I noticed that too. Might pop into a Dan’s if I get a chance.
