2011 TarraWarra Reserve Chardonnay

tarrawarra reserve chardThis is Clare Halloran’s most accomplished effort to date. If I had to choose just three Yarra Valley Chardonnys to cellar from the 2011 vintage I would pick this, the Oakridge Funder & Diamond and the Hoddles Creek 1er. That’s esteemed company.

Linear and dart-like in its trajectory. This sees no malolactic fermentation, only 25% new French oak. Purity and acuity with the sort of length reserved for people like John Holmes. Nectarine, white peach and lime with a faint kiss of toast, hazelnut and nougat. Tight as a snare drum and in need of bottle age but still extremely impressive now. 95+ Excellent – Exceptional

Region: Yarra Valley
Alcohol: $13
Closure: Screwcap
Price: $50
Tasted: April 2013

  1. Stephen Hall says:

Just had a bottle of this. Very sharp. Great nose. Could breathe this in for some hours. Great length. Worth watching it for some time. Just kept opening up. Lovely now but suspect it will be stunning in a few years – if you can keep your hands off it

  2. Reminds me – I have to buy some myself. And then whack it in the cellar straight away. I do have a propensity for drinking my Yarra Valley Chardonnay too young if it’s within arms reach :)
