Dudley Brown’s Inkwell Vineyard in Tatachilla appears to have fared astonishingly well in a tough year. Forget generalisations about 2011 or you’ll miss out on a bargain…and a damn fine wine.
A blend of 86% Shiraz and 14% Primitivo/Zinfandel. Has depth, layers, richness, ripeness and power with some warmth but no heaviness. The fruit has energy, there’s good shape and plenty of length. Nice set of tannins too. Tar, spice and licorice join cherries, Chinotto and chocolate with some regional earthen spice. It’s unashamedly full-bodied but sapid all the same. Dangerously so in fact. 93 Very Good
