Nice to see the Heathcote region from which this is sourced gain some much-needed respite from the vintage gods in 2010. We’re seeing some very good wine come out of it as a result.
There’s depth, energy and a bit of sumptuous elegance on show here. Dark cherry/berry fruits lead the way with hints of flint, crushed brown spice and licorice. Well applied French vanilla oak. Tannins are layered – both powdery and chewy at once – and give the wine an all-together classy finish. Friendly but in no way dumbed down. Drinking very well right now although it’s won’t fall over anytime soon. 93 Very Good

Smart buying at that price I’d reckon.
Had a glass of the 09 at the Opera House a few weeks back. Wasn’t expecting too much given the venue but even out of plastic flutes (really) it was good and a huge step up on the usual function wine served at such venues.
Better fare than those venues often serve up, although the stemware leaves something to be desired I suspect Domaine Chandon’s access to a wide range of sites allows them to achieve pretty decent results even in more difficult vintages. This 2010 is the best Heathcote Shiraz I’ve seen from them though.
