2012 Yelland & Papps Second Take Grenache

yelland and papps second take grenacheIf you haven’t been following Yelland & Papps, now would be a good time to start. The Devote, Divine and Second Take labels are all performing very well. Exciting times ahead.

Incorporation of 20% whole bunches with the grapes spending 14 days on skins. 17% new French oak and 83% old American oak. An untamed take on Barossa Grenache and very interesting it is. Dense and dark in the glass. A complex bouquet of raspberries, flowers, damp earth, yeast and grilled homemade beef patties. A little warmth but not as much as you see in many South Australian expressions of the grape. Oregano and spice on an extended finish. The acidity sits within the wine and there’s some toothsome and slightly rugged tannin. Give it a decant if you’re serving it now. It’s both primal and beautiful. 93 Very Good – Excellent
