Tom Shobbrook sourced the grapes for this wine from a Eden Valley vineyard planted in the early sixties. It was fermented in a large ceramic wine jar. And most importantly, it’s a ripper.
Far from crystal clear in the glass but not the full cloud either. The lees work hasn’t smothered the white flowers but it has provided some give and body on the midpalate. Very clever. I reckon you’ve got to love a Riesling that is so assured in its mineral tinged acidity that it can be discreet about it. Smells and tastes of green apple, lemon and stones with hints of freshly baked bread. A few slivers of ginger linger. Admirable drive and wet pebble extension as it tightens again on conclusion. 94 Excellent
