2011 Pizzini Sangiovese Shiraz

Pizzini sangiovese-shiraz-2010-lr-400hA wine that I firmly believe should be available more widely at a retail level. For many who are beginning their journey into wine, straight varietal Sangiovese can seem too savoury and too structured. The addition of Shiraz here softens and sweetens the wine. It’s going to have more mass appeal. If people want to keep drinking it, then more power to them. It’s a tasty wine. But if they’re interested in what the Sangiovese component is all about, it’s neither a large nor difficult step to find out by trying the Pizzini Sangiovese afterwards.

Opens up with sweet, affable red fruits that are almost luminescent in their nature. The palate is buoyant with acidity and some satisfying but not overwhelming chewy tannin. Sangiovese (and the season) contributes the dried and fresh herbal foil. Quaffable with a fair degree of interest. No great reach or complexity but that’s beside the point. 89 Good
