Curly Flat’s Pinot Noir has evolved over the years. I’m of the belief that this is their most accomplished effort yet. It combines the ethereal quality of the 2000 release with the complexity I think they’ve been chasing. The package is compelling.
Lightness of being without loss of intensity. It is floral as all get out – violets and roses. Raspberry, cherries and plums but not a sweet wine. Plenty of earthy beetroot characters and Asian spice. A little mint and meatiness with textured tannin seeing it gracefully out. 95 Excellent – Exceptional

I wish it was still unfined and unfiltered though
I just spoke to Phillip Moraghan this morning Jesse. Interestingly the only vintage of Curly Flat Pinot Noir that was fined was 2001 and the only vintage that was unfiltered was 2007. Phillip seems to have a great deal of faith in cross-flow filtration and is keen to avoid the variance within each bottle that he sees in unfiltered Pinot. So there’s a bit of an explanation.
