For all the bad press that the 2011 vintage has received, the areas hit by rain have still turned out some wines worthy of applause. They’ve also produced variations on themes and plays on difference which fascinate many wine enthusiasts, myself included.
This Mike Press Shiraz is lighter bodied and less bound up by oak as a youngster. It’s approachable now, no need for the long stint in the cellar as is usually the case. Brambly fruits and cherries, generous twists of black pepper, clove spice and vanilla. A hint of herbaceousness from the cool year but enough flavour to carry it. Tannins are fine and ripe. As always, the value here is extremely high. 90 Good
