2011 Kooyong Beurrot Pinot Gris

kooyong buerrot grisA Pinot Gris of great intrigue and subtlety. Not a bad thing really. I’ve meant to try previous vintages but retail managers kept talking me out of it. Weird.

There’s some sweet pear here but I can’t imagine the residual sugar is very high. Honeysuckle and spice on the nose and palate too. What I love about it though is the almond stuffed green olive character. It’s almost like they’ve been lightly breaded and fried. Texturally it’s bang on. Viscosity and acid structure working in harmony. I wouldn’t call it a crowd pleaser but the more I sat with it the more I came around to its way of thinking. 91 Good
