Kevin Judd is a pretty important figure in New Zealand wine. He was the founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay and oversaw 25 vintages at that iconic producer. The Greywacke label was established in 2009 with the wines being made at Dog Point.
New Zealand Chardonnay tends to take a back seat to the hype of Pinot and the massive commercial success of Sauvignon Blanc but I can’t see any reason that it should stay in the shadows forever. This is a good example. It’s stuffed full of ripe, sensuous fruit - peach and ruby grapefruit mostly – but that’s matched by matchstick complexity, flinty citrus accented acids and spicy oak. Nutty, savoury nous around the edges. A little creamy and quite delightful drinking. 93 Very Good
