The Wickhams Road Chardonnay from Gippsland is more brazen than its Yarra Valley counterpart. Solids funk and smoky oak impart the personality but there’s plenty of substance backing it all up.
Ruby grapefruit and melon, hints of hazelnut and struck match. A touch rounder and fuller but it tightens beautifully on the back-palate. Lingering notes of woodspice. Very tempted to go a point higher here but ultimately I suspect the difference between the wines lies in the realm of stylistic preference rather than at a qualitative level. 92 Very Good
