The second installment of the Vinoque Gamay from De Bortoli and a worthy follow-up to its 2011 predecessor. More forward and plush, as you’d expect from a warmer vintage.
A depth of dark cherry flavour sits atop bountiful stalky notes and cracked pepper with a suggestion of cola in the mix. A touch meaty as well. Smudged tannins sink in with time and the wine becomes fleshier in the glass. Acidity is tantalising and totally in tune with the fruit. A little thyme lingers at the end. Gluggable and fun, sure, but there’s plenty of quality here as well. 91 Good
