After bursting onto the scene with his 2010 releases, Abel Gibson produced only one Ruggabellus wine from the cool, wet 2011 Barossa vintage. Somewhat perversely it’s Mataro dominant with 17% Grenache, 15% Cinsault and 10% Syrah. No new oak.
Red fruited with brackeny vegetation, rare beef and spicy capsicum dip. It’s light to medium bodied and very savoury with Italian herbs lingering on the back-palate. Grape dominant tannins grasp the palate on the finish. Good energy and a surprising amount of depth. Tasty and fascinating table wine. 91 Good
