Moving up to the ‘gold band’ range from Peter Lauer now, designating the best plots from the estate. As my high school motto said “Plus Ultra”, although some of us interpreted the idea of “ever higher” in a manner that probably wasn’t intended…
The Fass 9 is feinherb or off-dry and whilst it’s highly structured, it is the densest of the Lauer wines I’ve tried so far. Caramel sweetness, peach and other stone fruits, roses, baked apple and sweet spice. Saline and slate like minerality slice through it and provide the necessary counterpoint to the residual sugar. Lengthy, slightly phenolic and clearly age-worthy. 94+ Excellent
