For those readers who are new to Tahbilk reds, you can pick them up a lot cheaper than RRP at retail and save a fair amount of money buying straight from the winery. It’s worth bearing in mind.
The flavour and aromatic profile of the 2009 Shiraz is comfortingly familiar. Blackberry, mulberry and plum, eucalypt, kalamata olives, licorice and a gamey background note. There’s earthy savoury qualities, dark cooking chocolate characters and flashes of kirsch. No shortage of interest. This release is a bit arid though, with not quite the desired plumpness to balance the grainy tannin and charry oak. That’s vintage variation for you. There’s still some value to be had at the right price. 88 Good
