2011 Faux Pas Shiraz

faux pas shiraz 11Another wine from the young team who brought us the succesful 2010 Faux Pas Adelaide Hills Tempranillo. Good friends Vanessa Robson, Andrew Ramsey and Liam Van Pelt were working in different regions when they decided to pool their collective talents and resources to produce gear under this label. This Shiraz is from the Churinga Vineyard in the Clare Valley.

It smells inviting enough. Mulberry, cherry pips and blackberry, crushed bay and gum leaf along with a dash of pepper and anise spice. The palate is buoyant and vibrant with plenty of natural, juicy acidity. Entry is fine but it falls away after that. Slightly unripe, brackeny tannins bear the mark of a wet, cool year and there’s little in the way of length. It is sessionable and a tomato based sauce helps bring out its charms. Doesn’t really bear close scrutiny though. 86 Average
