The Aunts vineyard lies in Pokolbin and was planted in 1968. This Shiraz was the very first wine Meerea Park ever produced, back in 1995. It still sees some American oak (and some French) but it doesn’t seem as prominent as it has in many previous releases.
Smells of vanilla and loganberries with distinct red fruited highlights, turned earth, pan juices and hints of tar. Some florals too. Medium bodied, juxtaposing sweeter characters with a savoury regional stamp, a shake of pepper and pleasing, leathery tannin. The acid rides a little too high at the moment and it needs more time in the bottle to show its best. 90+ Good
