2008 KT Peglidis Vineyard Watervale Aged Release Riesling

kt peglidis rizzaThe Peglidis vineyard was planted in 1973, the same year I was born. It’s probably fair to say that it’s matured better than me. I first tasted this wine at ‘The Lakehouse’ in Daylesford in 2010. Sommelier Tom Hogan showed enough foresight to have it on a lavish degustation menu, even though Kerri Tompson’s eponymous label had only been around for a short period of time. Fun to revisit this week.

Waxy and toasty but with lime and citrus zest still bright and lively. There’s hints of stonefruit, hay and apple. No honey just yet and thankfully no petrol/kerosene – attention to detail in the vineyard means the grapes didn’t get sunburnt. Plenty of persistence here. I don’t think of 2008 as a particularly long-lived vintage for Clare Riesling but while this is in a nice phase between youth and maturity already it should really be singing in another 4-5 years. 92 Very Good
