“Roll on summer, roll on
The spray coming off the ocean
The big breakers rolling in
The smell of the suntan lotion
As we’re rubbing it all over our skin
The sweet metal taste of VB
Straight from the ice cold esky
With the fish and chips so hot and salty
Oh, Sally, won’t you kiss me again” – Paul Kelly
Such a consistent Margaret River wine, the ol’ Voyager Estate Sav Sem. And surely we can forgive Mr Kelly’s mention of VB in this erotically charged lyric - at least he realises its tastes metallic. Nothing like this wine.
Smells great the moment you pour it; cut grass, passionfruit, thistle, citrus and herbs. Aromatics as defined and delineated as a body that belongs on a beach. Then it lifts a notch again as it slides into the mouth. Layered textures of wax and cream caress and coax the palate while a slightly bitter, salty finish lingers like a kiss. 94 Excellent
“Later on in the blooming suburbs
You kissed me so much that my pants hurt
I was on the last button of your shirt
When your daddy called “It’s time to come in!
Roll on, summer, roll on”

What a great review, makes me want to drink something I probably would’ve passed by (to my detriment). I’m going to get a bottle of this, and I’m going to drink it.
Thanks Tom. Wine never ceases to fascinate in its ability to conjure memories of songs, books and snippets of life. It’s one of the many reasons it captivates me. To sip on a glass behind my laptop and be transported to a beach in my youth is the sort of thing I’ll always be amazed by.
Cheers
