2011 Kooyong Clonale Chardonnay

Always a go to Chardonnay for me, the Kooyong Clonale has been in tip-top form of late. As much as I enjoyed the 2010, I called the 2011 as a better wine again on release…but I didn’t review it straight away. On the plus side, it’s just entering its drinking window – on the down side, the website suggests we’re already onto the 2012. Oh well, plenty of this vintage available on retail shelves last I checked.

The acidity, initially questioned by some, has folded neatly back into the wine and the flavours have a bit more breadth; nectarine and peach fuzz have joined the lemon and grapefruit which make this a more linear expression of Chardonnay whilst in no way falling into the category of ‘under-done’. Very subtle bready lees and a trademark quartz finish. No question marks over persistence either. 94 Excellent
