2010 Chapel Hill Shiraz

A well crafted rendition of McLaren Vale Shiraz, although it doesn’t exhibit quite the same vitality evident in other expressions from the 2010 vintage. Smooth, creamy oak plays a key role even though only 22% of it is new. I’m guessing the 36% one and two-year old hogsheads have imparted a fair amount of texture and flavour as well. Oh, and it’s mostly French oak for the record.

Black and blue fruited with almond essence, choc licorice bullets, vanilla, beef stock and earthen spices. Some saline minerality as well. It’s cohesive and plush but there’s a foothold of structure providing a sturdy base. A pleasing example of a classic Vale style. 91 Good
