Ed Carr (aka Mr Fizzy Pants) is the king of late disgorged Australian Sparkling wine and here he turns his hand to a Blanc de Blancs version. Nine whopping years on lees have brought plenty of autolysis derived depth and complexity along with some extra texture and weight to a wine that is layered and complex yet surprisingly fresh given its age.
Aromas of brioche, lemon, white flowers, cashew, mushroom and ginger. No sharp edges but the structure is precise and admirable. A slight marshmallow sweetness to the soft mid-palate before citrus accented acidity brings proceedings back into sharp focus and adds refreshment at the end. Very hard to fault. 94 Excellent

I had one of these with turkey the other week and it was excellent. Great notes and very similar to what I noted too !
Thanks Mark. I had the pleasure of tasting the E.J. Carr Late Disgorged 2000 at Dan Buckle’s “Sparkling Summit” last year (a valuable think-tank and tasting which I hope will be repeated next year) and while it was very impressive, I’m not certain this BdB was far behind it. Mind you, the E.J. Carr was served in a bracket with a Krug Vintage Brut 2000 and some other heavy hitters so that may have played a part in my perceptions.
