“People will know when they see this show
The kind of a guy I am
They’ll recognize just what I stand for and what I just can’t stand
They’ll perceive what I believe in
And what I know is true
And they’ll recognize I’m a one man guy
Always was through and through”- Loudon Wainwright III
Onto the ninth release of the good ol’ Frost Dodger. I’ve said it before, I’m a Schist Rock Shiraz kinda guy, and a one man guy at that but this is the best release of the appassimento dry racked version that I’ve tasted. It’s rich, full-bodied and multifarious but never cumbersome or plodding.
Cinnamon dusted blueberries, black fruits, chocolate covered raisins, caramel, pepper spice and all manner of smooth delights. Hints of leather, meat and coffee grounds set it off. Structured by buoyant acidity and long, fine drying tannin which assures it never loses a sense of purpose either. Easy to indulge in now although I’d be keen to see how it evolves over time. 94 Excellent

Maybe I’m shallow, but I’m more interested in this wine since your note has these lyrics quoted in it….
I try to save the best quotes for the best wines
Yes I love this wine too… still have six of the ’04 hidden away somewhere, can’t wait to dig them out five or so years from now.
I missed out on tasting the 2004 Josh but judging from this 2010 release I suspect the Frost Dodger would age well in better vintages – and 2004 was certainly a good Eden Valley Shiraz vintage. Having said that, Ive not tried one with a few years on it, so it is just my best guess. I’m not sure if Domenic has altered the way he makes the wine since then. It’s still appassimento of course.
