“Some day you’ll return to
your valleys and your farms
and you’ll no longer burn
to be brothers in arms” - Dire Straits
A cliché to quote what I still consider (as I’m no hipster) to be a truly great song. Still, these words came to mind when tasting this wine. It’s unfashionable and old-fashioned; and for good reason – it’s unbalanced and difficult to drink. You can argue all you like about why Australia became known for these sort of monsters but the fact is most wine enthusiasts are moving on…and this country has far more to offer. The last throes will be in overseas wine shows. And the reasons for that are too complex for me to go into here.
Bourbon and leather with prunes underneath. BBQ sauce, Xmas cake, mint and currants. Sweet oak. Massive yet skinny and lacking substance. The line is interrupted by alcohol warmth and that burn is the last thing you’re left with. No real length of flavour but a fair amount of grainy tannin. Feels hollow. 81 Below Average

It is a great song. Quiet and poignant.
Unlike this wine.
Michael.
Yes, quiet and poignant sums it up well I think. As for this wine, well…
