2012 Hahndorf Hill ‘Gru’ Grüner Veltliner

This is the second Australian Grüner that I’ve tasted, the other being the excellent Lark Hill from Canberra. Both wineries champion the variety and do it well, although they are quite different expressions.

This has the hallmark white pepper, apple and celery that the variety is known for. Limey, acid drive accompanies an intriguing, almost gelatinous feel to the mid-palate before finishing on a crisper, mineral note. Some melon and caramel in there too. Lots going on; sure to maintain your attention for the duration of the bottle. Drank it by itself, with a salad and with Sichuan take-away (authentic too). Worked every time. 93 Very Good – Excellent
