I’m loving the exploration of individual sites within the Hunter Valley. Wine geek heaven and very illuminating for the region as it moves forward too. This Shiraz is sourced from the 22 year old LDR vineyard which was planted on heavy clay soils.
Denser, darker, richer fruits at play. Still medium bodied but more in the cherry/plum spectrum with a hint of purple floral aromas. The oak is more obvious, contributing a French vanilla accent. Kind of nutty with clove and cardamom apparent on the palate. It’s neither as insistent or persistent as the Steven Vineyard expression and there’s more grainy tannin. I doubt it will have quite the same longevity either. Still, much to like here. 93 Very Good – Excellent
