2010 Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir

Neudorf’s flagship Moutere Pinot Noir sits amongst my favourite three New Zealand expressions of the variety; the other two being Ata Rangi and Pegasus Bay. Voluptuous but not excessive. Nutty, chocolate oak (30% new) is just sexy. It’s silken and flows like a ribbon in the breeze.

High-toned red cherry and star anise with base notes of spiced orange rind, pan-fried veal and cool herbs. It builds though the line, pluming with sarsaparilla, spice and mineral notes on the finish. Fine powdery tannin stacks up admirably. Layers and depth without over-extraction or heaviness. Pinot to luxuriate in. 94 Excellent
