2010 Mt. Difficulty Pinot Noir

Grapes were sourced from the Bannockburn subregion of Central Otago. And make no mistake, it’s Central Otago to its core. A relatively warm year has produced a wine of great typicité; rich fruits, dramatic wild herb aromas and some flesh on its bones.

Having said that, it’s quite structurally loaded. Strict, gummy tannins add shape and muscularity to the dark cherry and plum fruits. Suggestions of blood orange, spice and dried clay too. It’s fun to watch it open up a bit in the glass. A kind of burlesque strip tease if you will. The single vineyards are generally a step up from this, bit it’s a fine Pinot no doubt. 92 Very Good
