From the same block that produces McLaren Vale’s finest Chardonnay. I wanted to take a closer look last time I was in the region but a (necessarily) hectic itinerary took its toll. Special dirt I reckon. Oh well, next time.
It’s a muscular, masculine wine – especially upon opening; all deep, brooding, tannic and tarry. Given time it reveals many delights. Blackberry and currants, mulberry lift, violets, tea leaf and charred capsicum. Rich, regional dark chocolate and some licorice are liberated with further air. It’s a tight, toned and structured beast but the quality is impossible to overlook. One for the cellar. 94 Excellent
