2011 Yalumba Galway Vintage Traditional Shiraz

“Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion” – Eurythmics

The Barossa hadn’t seen a year as wet as 2011 in a long, long time. Some good wines were still made but it must have been hard work getting something worthwhile out of a bottle at this price point. I liked the 2010 but the new release is a casual BBQ wine at best.

It’s mulchy and a touch green with firm, stalky tannin. The flavour is mostly up-front; dark berries, coffee and cocoa. After that it falls away pretty quickly. It’s not a bad wine. But it’s not really successful either. Average
