I haven’t found the 2011 Pinots from the Yarra Valley to be quite the unmitigated disaster some predicted. At the same time, I can’t honestly say I’ve tasted many that thrill me. Considering the conditions that had to be dealt with, I’d be inclined to call that a success.
This effort from Trellis is pretty and perfumed. Raspberry and cherries to the fore with spice, plums and a few forest notes. It’s in no way under-ripe – there’s ample sweet fruit generosity on the front-palate. It took some time to coax the structure out of it, but it’s there. Perky yet balanced acids and firm, stalky feeling tannin. A nice drink which I think it will be at its best in the next few years but you never know. Wine can surprise you. Good
