I reckon Curly Flat’s ‘William’s Crossing’ Chardonnay may just be the best value example of the variety outside of Hoddles Creek. The fruit is from the same vineyard as the standard Curly Flat and it’s vinified in the same manner, it’s just made up of barrels that didn’t make the cut for the higher tiered label.
Plenty of toasty, smoky oak and bold flavour but with keen grapefruit acidity keeping everything in line. Yellow and white peach, lemon curd, citrus rind and ginger spice. It’s quite buxom and textural but it pulls it off. Layered Chardonnay with good length and depth. Fair to say I liked this a lot more than Ben Edwards did. Very Good
