The Marananga region is in the north-west of the Barossa Valley, sort of between Tanunda and Moppa. These are new look labels for Tscharke (I think they replace the old Glaymonds) and they’re clearly designed to give attention to the different terroirs of the Barossa Valley. More power to them.
Don’t be scared off by the ABV reading. It’s all rather balanced and not at all hot. In fact it’s quite vital and there’s plenty of structure. Initially it’s a tight, toned beast with iron filing tannin and a ripped physique. It becomes more gentle with air, displaying varietal cherries, plums, red earth and that old Asian spice. There’s a level of finesse and composure here that I haven’t previously seen with Damien Tscharke’s reds. Good - Very Good
