Much to like about the 2010 Quartz Hill Viognier. It’s unapologetically varietal without being gloopy and it’s got plenty of character. Ultimately it lacks the length, shape and definition for a higher rating but it’s still a fine effort.
A musky nose with canned peach, subdued florals, honeycomb, dried apricot and ginger spice. A good balance between textural oiliness/viscosity, soft acids and phenolic grip. It fades on the back palate after a full frontal attack and it’s not as focused as I’d like to see. If those more technical aspects don’t bother you then you’ll find plenty of enjoyment here. Good – Very Good
