A lovely and affordable taste of Clare Valley Cabernet from what was, by all accounts, a good red vintage. It’s regionality and balance are hard to fault.
High-toned menthol, mulberry, violets and blackberry. Not so much over-powering cassis, which I know others enjoy in Cabernet but which I personally find somewhat simple, boring and unappealing – nothing to do with quality mind you, just my tastes you understand. Sensitive choc malt oak, roasted red peppers and a mere hint of elegant leafiness. Elongated strands of tannin add form and satisfaction. Fades a little from the back of the mid-palate on but still thoroughly enjoyable. I’m not saying it won’t cellar but I’d revel in its youthful buoyancy and togetherness. Good – Very Good
